FIRST LOOK: More to come, but let us introduce your 2023 BJSHS Homecoming Queen and King, Adalee Martin and Gabe Drudge. #Royalty #BeavertonAlways

THAT'S AT LEAST 3,217 HIGH FIVES: Our BJSHS football players greeted all their BES buddies at the door this morning, firing up for the big day to come. #HomeTeam #BeavertonAlways

THE FULL HOCO EFFECT: Homecoming, Beaverton Style, arrives Friday and we don’t want you to miss a thing. The PTO will host a tailgate for students from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and for the community from 5 to 7 p.m. On the agenda will be a food truck, Kona Ice, donuts, cider, cornhole, spirit hair and face-painting for students, and the musical stylings of Mr. Phil Andrist, carrying the spirit all the way to the 7 p.m. kickoff versus Pinconning. And, of course, don’t forget the parade, which begins at 5 p.m. It’s gonna be swell! #HocoDoneRight #BeavertonAlways

FREE COLLEGE! Okay. So now that we have your attention, we want to make sure you plan to attend the BJSHS Early College Information Night, which is set for next Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in the BJSHS Media Center. Our presenters will lay out all the ins and outs of our Early College program, including: What's Early College? What's required from students and families? Can students actually graduate from high school with a two-year college degree or skilled trades certification? (Spoiler alert: Yes.) Is it really free for participating students? (Spoiler alert: Yes.) Beaverton Early College represents an excellent and affordable way for your student to get a jump on college, a career, or both at no cost to families. Please plan to join us for an informative introduction to Early College that may just provide exactly what your son or daughter needs to launch a satisfying, successful career. If you have any questions, please contact Misty Johnson at mjohnson@beavertonschools.net or 989.246.3010, ext. 1338. See you then!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Our elementary students heard a presentation today from Al 'The Respect Guy' Ulman, who used magic, humor and hands-on participation to discuss his ROAR ('Respect Others Act Responsibly') program. #BeaversROAR #GoBeavers

HOCO MOJO: Homecoming week is here, and so is your BJSHS Homecoming Court, which includes sophomores Landon Love and Emily McCann; juniors Caiden Loar and Reese Mishler; seniors Gabe Drudge and Aniston King, Mason Ptak and Adalee Martin and Layk Woodruff and Karley Fischer; and freshmen Benjamin Zdrojewski and Charity Danielak. (And for everyone who pines for the way we all dressed during 2020, today's Spirit Week theme was Zoom Day, which helps explain the pajamas.) #HOCO2023 #GoBeavers

NICE DAY TO STRIKE A POSE: Today was the kind of day at BJSHS where you just want to gather 400 or so of your closest buddies, step outside and capture for future generations just what school spirit looked like in 2023. (Except for the senior class, which was on a field trip.) #GoBeavers

COACH VAN IS STILL THE MAN: A beautiful Friday morning was made brighter today when longtime BHS football coach Dick Van Wieren stopped by to talk a little football, admire the ever-improving Beaverton campus and get a look at the Metzger Field scoreboard that bears his name. #BeavertonAlways #GoBeavers

THAT'S A LOT OF VEGGIE STIX: With parent/teacher conferences still a couple months away, this week's BES Fall With Families meetups are providing a chance for families to meet teachers and get a read on what their kids will learn. After outstanding summer learners are recognized by the whole group, families sit with classroom teachers to hear about curriculum and expectations and to ask questions. The meetings continue Friday with grades 4-6. #GoBeavers

NOW IT CAN BE TOLD: What's with all the activity on the north end of campus? A special partnership between Beaverton Schools and the Beaverton Community Athletic Park promises great things for our entire community. Read all about it here: bit.ly/46bPn2x #BigThings #GoBeavers

Friendly Reminder!
Tomorrow, Thursday, September 14th, is our Fall with Families event for parents of all Kindergarten-3rd grade students.
Join us to celebrate summer learning and get a glimpse into what your child will be learning this school year. Hope to see you there!

Fun for the whole family!

SAFER AND STRONGER: With the passage of our bond proposal in 2021, Beaverton Schools affirmed its commitment to a safer, more secure campus with the improvements that would follow. Today's safety drills marked another step in honoring that pledge to protect our kids. Students and staff trained to properly deploy The Boot, a system designed to alert the entire campus in the event of an emergency, lock down each building and prevent intruders from entering the classroom. Available in each classroom throughout the district, The Boot is a barricade and alarm system that can withstand 16,000 pounds of pressure while alerting administrators and law enforcement that a lockdown is underway. Today, staff and students observed a safety demonstration and then practiced proper procedures in the event The Boot is necessary. (BES kids also got to meet safety mascot Bobby The Boot.) FAMILIAR FACES, DIFFERENT PLACES: When students returned to school last week, they were greeted by some familiar faces in different places. Three of those familiar faces are now in charge of BES and BJSHS. Get the full story at bit.ly/3Pf6Bqe and #GoBeavers.
