Today was hat day. One of our very own retired teachers wanted to participate. Mr. Rise has been coming back to help with the substitute shortage. To teach for many years and come back, shows how much passion he has for the students. We asked Mr. Rise what his "why" was for teaching today, and loved his response... "I have always believed it is important to connect with the kids in many ways, not just academically. I want them to see that there are sides of teachers that want to have fun just like kids do!" -Mr. Rise

Yesterday some of our students participated in an assembly presented by Anthony Ianni. Anthony is one of the most sought-after anti-bullying motivational speakers in the region. He was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder at the age of four. Doctors and others had told him that he would never graduate, never go to college, and would face a lot of challenges in life. The only thing they were right about were the challenges, but he rose above those. Among so many other amazing things, Anthony worked hard and became the first known athlete with autism to play Big 10 basketball for Michigan State University. He now speaks to children around the country to help them understand they can do anything, if they work hard. He teaches them about family and tells them to be the change the want to see. Just a friendly reminder: our elementary doors open at 7:45 with school beginning at 7:55. When dropping students off early please check the temperatures and ensure that they are dressed properly for the time they will be waiting outside. We’ve had some very chilly mornings and want to make sure our students are staying warm! Also, beginning instruction takes off at 7:55 am. Our teachers start promptly with their morning meetings, lessons, and specials. Please have students in school with enough time to be prepared for the start of the day. We are continuing to experience many tardy students. In the event of an emergency situation, please communicate with our office or your classroom teacher so we can best meet the needs of your child. Attendance is important and every minute counts for academic achievement and success! Thank you, Beaverton Elementary Staff
