SAFER EVERY DAY: It’s not always pleasant to ponder, but hoping for the best while preparing for the worst is the only way a responsible school district can operate. Today, Beaverton Schools took another important step toward attaining MI HEARTSafe School certification. A group of teachers and administrators have volunteered to comprise their respective school’s Medical Emergency Response Teams, and today’s drills called for a rapid response to a cardiac event. School MERT teams, along with School Resource Officers and Beaverton Fire Department and EMS personnel, walked through the proper protocols of recognizing a cardiac event, notifying 9-1-1, securing the school building and administering life-saving care until paramedics arrive. Groups in both schools scored well in their scenarios, and it’s a point of pride that not only the MERT squad but almost 40 percent of Beaverton school teachers and administrators are CPR and AED certified. We’ll postgame today’s exercises, make any necessary adjustments and work to get even better. #Striving #GoBeavers
The Beaverton Athletic Department is looking for help at our home track meets this spring. The dates are: Thursday, April 13th (HS), Tuesday, April 18th (MS), Wednesday, April 26th (HS), Tuesday, May 9th (MS) and Wednesday, May 10th (HS). FOR A GOOD CAUSE: It’s March 14, which means for math nerds worldwide, it’s Pi Day. At BJSHS, the BPA team found a crowd-pleasing way to celebrate - with pies to the faces of a group of student and staff dignitaries. Students voted with their wallets, donating to BPA for a chance to wield the confections. We’re not sure how much fun it was for the victims, but everybody else had an absolute blast. #DessertBenefitsAll #GoBeavers
