Academic Support for 9th - 12th grade students: I first would like to acknowledge how difficult distant learning is for everyone involved. It is difficult for our students and our teachers. Artsonia is an online art gallery- check out what BJSHS has been creating in the art room! Especially in the crazy times that we're experiencing right now, this is a safe, fun way to share our student artwork and give them the recognition they deserve. You can view, share, and comment on their artwork and what they've been creating all year- you can even see their entire art portfolio for all of their middle and high school years! You can even help out the BJSHS art room by ordering prints, mugs, cards, and more with your student's artwork on it and the proceeds come right back to our art room. If you are a parent and don't see your student's work, you can contact Miss Barnett or log in with your student's Google account to grant permission. If you do not wish to do this, your student artwork will remain available only to the student and teacher- it's a safe, fun way to share and view all of the great things that our student's accomplish in the art room! https://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=15048

UPDATE FOR 9th-12th GRADE STUDENTS: Good evening families. If you have not heard, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, along with Gov. Whitmer, have extended the current “pause” order for 12 additional days. This means 9th through 12th grade students must remain on remote learning at least until we return from Christmas break. Again, this is only for 9th - 12th grade students. In light of this new information, 9th -12th grade students will continue with their current mode of learning, either online or with packets. If you have been learning online, you will continue to receive your work online. If you have been learning with paper/pencil packets, a new packet will be available for pickup on Thursday, Dec 10th. Please drop off your completed old packet when you pick up the new one. Once you have completed the new packet, you will have until Friday, Dec 18th at 4pm to drop it off. If you do not drop it off by 4pm on Friday the18th, you must bring it back when we all return to school on Jan. 4th, 2021. I cannot stress enough to students and their families how important it is for each student to take ownership in their own learning and complete their schoolwork during this distant learning time. Every teacher is available daily to assist any student who calls or emails. Please take advantage of this resource. If you have any questions, please contact the school office or teachers.

Update
MHSAA UPDATE: Dear MHSAA Community, Today’s announcement from Governor Whitmer and MDHHS has extended the “pause” on high school in-person instruction and high school and middle school sports through Dec. 20. The MHSAA had provided a detailed plan to both Governor Whitmer and MDHHS that would have completed fall tournaments with no spectators as safely as possible during the month of December along with allowing winter sport practices to resume. While we are disappointed in today’s announcement, we will continue to look forward as we remain committed to play three sports seasons to their conclusion. The MHSAA Representative Council will meet on Wednesday of this week to chart out another plan for finishing Fall and restarting Winter. Updated information will reach you again following Wednesday’s Representative Council meeting. Beaverton School will provide the next update upon receipt. We hope our volleyball team can complete their tournament run. GO RED!

The Office of Career and Technical Education has been asked to share the following information: Career Exploration & Awareness Month To recognize the state’s urgent and growing need for talent and the programs and services in place to help and engage residents in employment, training and educational opportunities, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer encourages Michiganders to explore the many career pathways available to them during Career Exploration and Awareness Month, Dec. 1-31. Students, their parents and school counselors are encouraged to check out the Michigan Career and Education Pathfinder site to explore careers and identify educational opportunities throughout the state. Happy Thanksgiving! This message is to remind everyone that our Y5’s-8th grade students are returning to school on Nov. 30th and, per Michigan Health Dept order, our 9th -12th grade will return Wed., Dec. 9th. All homework that has been assigned by teachers is required to be completed for a grade. Teachers are available every day to help anyone who needs it. Please visit your google classroom or call our school office for more information. We are here to help. During this temporary closure of in-person learning, we encourage as many students as possible to complete the work online via your teacher’s google classroom. However, we have had packets available 24hrs a day, 7days a week, since last Wed, for anyone who does not have the technology or connectivity. 7th & 8th grade students will bring their completed packet back to school with them on Nov. 30th. For 9th - 12th grade students, you will need to turn your completed packet into the provided bin outside the main office and pick up a new packet. Starting tomorrow, Wed. Nov. 25th, a new packet will be available for 9th - 12th grade students only. This new packet will need to be finished and brought back to school with you when you return on Dec. 9th. Finally, I want to remind every student that it is absolutely vital you are active in your own learning. You have work to do and it is required for a grade. If you have questions, please reach out to your teachers or the office. Thank you.

Good afternoon families. As you know the district is closed for in-person instruction until Monday, November 30th. At that time, K-8th grade students will be coming back for live instruction, however, 9th -12th grade will remain on virtual instruction until Wednesday, December 9th, per the Michigan Health Department order. In light of that, we are offering virtual instruction to all of our students. All assignments given during this temporary closure will be graded. The preferred method for completing work is online through Google Classroom and HMH. It is strongly recommended that students complete their work using this method. However, we understand some families do not have internet access or the technology. It is expected this is a temporary closure, therefore, the district will not be loaning out Chromebooks. For those students who cannot complete their work within their google classroom, BJSHS will be offering homework packets for pickup. Homework packet pickup will be available starting this Wednesday, November 18th @ 1pm. The initial homework packet will cover material through Thanksgiving, Packets will only be available outside the BJSHS main office for self-service, no contact pickup. After Wednesday, they will be in that location 7 days a week 24hrs a day, come anytime that is convenient for you. If you come to pick up a homework packet, you will need to know your student’s exact classes and teachers. It is very important to have this information prior to coming up to get the packets. The completed homework will need to be returned to school on November 30th or dropped off outside in the completed work box. Finally, I would like to encourage as many students as possible to complete all their work via their Google Classroom and HMH. The last reminder is to remember each student is responsible for completing this work and it will be graded. As always, call the BJSHS office with any questions.
