A QUALITY CITIZEN: Congratulations to BJSHS's own Emma Govitz, who was recognized alongside students from nine other schools last week at the DAR Good Citizens recognition program. Emma was selected as Beaverton's representative by a committee of teachers who applauded her dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. At a luncheon held in Midland Nov. 11, Emma, pictured here with her father, Dick Govitz, was honored by the John Alden chapter. #GoodCitizen #GoBeavers
AN INK-STAINED EYE-OPENER: Beaverton students from Mrs. Grice's Journalism and Yearbook classes hopped on a bus to the Midland Daily News this morning and were welcomed into the newsroom with cookies, brownies and a big ol' batch of useful information about newspaper careers. MDN Editor Dave Clark walked students through the important aspects of sourcing a story and interviewing techniques. The students then immediately turned Mr. Clark's own lesson against him, peppering him with questions about his career in the media. Thanks to Mr. Clark and reporter Tess DeGayner for such a valuable look behind the curtain. #WritersWrite #WritersRead #GoBeavers
