SPAGHETTI BRIDGE - A TALE TOLD IN FOUR ACTS: ACT I: BJSHS STEM students Vanessa Guzman and Travis Ficek build a bridge using spaghetti and glue. Mr. Wicke confirms that the bridge meets the specifications called for in the assignment. ACT II: By adding weight to the pail suspended from the bridge, Wicke tests its limits. ACT III: Shards of pasta fly as he reaches them. ACT IV: Post-game discussion centers around how the bridge could've been constructed to withstand more stress. The consensus is that this is potentially the most delicious science experiment of the year. (So far.)

WHO TEACHES THE TEACHERS? Students had the day off, but teachers were hard at it Friday working on professional development, and the theme was "data." Essential to student growth is the ability to recognize what works in the classroom, what doesn't, and how to measure improvement. Data experts from Clare-Gladwin RESD were on hand to help guide the discussion, all in the efforts to make sure that when our kids walk across that stage at graduation, they're prepared for college, a career or both. #PuttingInTheWork #GoBeavers

CRUCIAL LESSONS: Beaverton Schools hosted a series of presentations today from Trooper Shane Noble of the Michigan State Police's West Branch Post. He shared important information with kids in grades five through 12 about the real-life consequences of vaping, poor decisions with cell phones and cyberbullying. We appreciate Trooper Noble spending his day with our students and sharing his experiences. #GoBeavers

THE GREAT EGG DROP OF 2022: Mrs. Woodruff's STEM students have spent their time lately thinking about brain injuries and ways to prevent them. Their latest project found them designing a miniature football helmet that would house an egg and be built strong enough for the egg to make it through a drop of one foot undamaged. Materials used to build the helmets included cardboard, egg cartons, rubber bands, yarn and tape. Some survived, some didn't. Or, to think of it another way, some ended up boiled; some ended up sunny side up. #EggSafety #GoBeavers
